cubbiebearstl asked: I saw your post about being "other" and not "black enough", and my best friend in high school felt the same. Because she was intelligent and articulate the black people in my school hated her and called her a traitor. But she had a very different name, and she was VERY dark so most white people made fun of her for being black and "acting white". It frustrates me because the people I went to school with should look up to her, not down. Also the phrase "acting white" annoys me very much.
I loathe that phrase. It assumes stupidity is a “black” trait.
I have an uncle (who is black) and he is always being told he isn’t ‘black enough’ or he is ‘acting white’. It’s like they are saying only white people can be smart and/or successful. It’s even worse when there are black people who do this. (His biological family does this, which is why he doesn’t really like them and considers himself apart of our family)
THANK YOU Omg nothing irritates me more than the “not black enough” BS. Seriously. Being articulate is not an exclusively “white” trait!
It filled my heart with joy.
